Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs Kin Moy testified at a House Foreign Affairs Committee hearing on U.S. and Taiwan relations. Formal recognition of Taiwan ended in 1978, but the Taiwan Relations Act of 1979 and other laws have allowed the U.S. to maintain diplomatic ties and conduct trade, including arms sales.
